Triund the Tantalizing

Jared Ammon

Triund Hill is a popular destination among McLeod locals and tourists. This grassy ridgeline stands at 9,350 feet and is reachable through the Triund Trail - a moderate-level hiking trail that takes around three hours for a novice hiker to complete. The trailhead is located at Dharamkot Square, where potential canine companions reside. “Trail dogs”, often serving as motivators and food-beggars, join hikers on the trail. The trail is filled with magnificent flowers, breath-taking views of Dharamshala, and waterfalls. The top of Triund Hill will greet you with a tea shop, a small Hindu Temple, potential campsites, and more stunning views. It is common to find herds of sheep and goats, as shepherds live and work near the ridgeline. The two herds of sheep and goats that we encountered left us speechless, as they meandered around us and down the mountain. Overall, Triund is a perfect all-day excursion for those looking to escape the hustle-and-bustle of McLeod and enjoy the beauties of nature.
